What to do during Summer in the Clare Valley

If you’re looking to change up your annual beach break or river escape, then why not do Summer in the Clare Valley? Just 1 1/2 from Adelaide, it’s the perfect spot to sit back and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city (plus there is plenty of wine!).

The number one thing on this list is of course going to be the wineries. What better way to beat the heat than sitting back and sipping a cool, crisp 2019 Riesling a one of our 35+ Cellar Doors. And if you’re whole party isn’t into wine, then visit the breweries! Head to Pikes to sample your way through their wine and beer list, before enjoying a gourmet lunch overlooking the Vineyards at their Slate Restaurant. Jeanneret Wines have also got you covered, literally sharing their cellar door with the Clare Valley Brewing Company – offering an Iced Latte Stout (an absolute must-try) and also a grape cider! Chill back on their deck with a cheese board to wind down your afternoon.

Martindale Hall is a short 20-minute drive from Clare in Mintaro. The historic mansion was built in the 1800s by a wealthy bachelor pastoralist, Edmund Bowman Jr. Today it is open to the public for day-visits, where you can wander through some of the 32 rooms and around the grounds. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the shade whilst you’re there to truly appreciate its beauty.

If you’ve got little ones (although big-kids can definitely partake), head on down to Simpson Rices Creek Mini-Golf and have a go at their 18-hole course. Enjoy coffee and cake or a light lunch in their cafe whilst you browse their extensive range of products and giftware whilst the kids have a go on the outdoor playground and games, including pool, checkers and naughts and crosses.
